What is clear communication?

When talking about clear communication, ‘clear’ can be split up into:

  • Specific
  • Easily understandable
  • Appreciative
  • Relevant

Communication should be as specific as possible and targeted at the person you are communicating with.

Brief and specific communication can be an advantage, as the message cannot be misunderstood. Other than that, you should communicate in an easily understandable language, so the recipient of your communication understands your meaning. If this is not the case, miscommunication will occur which can have consequences for the communicator and the recipient.

It is important to know the recipient, so you can be targeting, and know who to use technical terms with and who not to use technical terms with. If you, for example, are talking to a customer, then it is important to be appreciative and listen to what the other party has to say.

Besides this it is also important that what you are communicating is relevant to the person you are communicating with. You should always use clear communication when you as a business are communicating with a customer. If a business manages to communicate clearly to its customers, then the customers will have no doubt about the specific values the business can create for them.
