Do you have a lot of knowledge that you just know is worth its weight in gold, but you don't know how to transform it all so that you can make money from it?
Dorie Clark, a marketing strategy consultant, has contributed to the Harvard Business Review IdeaCast. A podcast where she answers the burning question: How do people make money from what they know? Here she talks about the possibilities of how you, as an expert in your field, can earn money by sharing your knowledge.
Knowledge is a quality that you cannot get enough of, some would even say that knowledge can give power. You can't know everything, so you go to experts to get the help you want. In some cases, acquiring this knowledge can be expensive.
Experts in a particular field take large sums of money to share their knowledge. Just look at lawyers and accountants.
Fortunately, it doesn't have to be expensive. As a member with us, you can spar with coaches, people who are experts in their field.
If you would like to make money from your knowledge and create a livelihood, listen to the podcast How successful solopreneurs make money.
Ways you can monetize your knowledge:
- Public speaking
- Podcasts
- E-books
- Online courses
- Workshops
- 1:1 sparring
If you have become curious, Dorie Clark has authored the book Entrepreneurial You, here she argues that entrepreneurship is a mindset: being adaptable and decisive – and making money from your expertise.
If you want to sell a product market fit for, for example, a course, then this is best done with your customer. If the customer is not willing to pay for an entire course, you can sell the outline.
The book is structured in three steps:
- Build trust by making yourself visible and valuable via blogs and knowledge/podcasts
- Go deep; work as a consultant and coach. Find leads, hold meetings and live (hours)
- Scale your knowledge; teach, start a community, sell professional speaking
Remember that giving something away for free can lead to leads or video material that can sell you as a consultant. It is about creating trust and authority.
